RSS and Podcast Instructions
What is RSS?
RSS, most commonly known as "Really Simple Syndication," is a technology that allows you to display content from one website on another website, or syndicate content from the original location to a new location.
What is Podcasting?
Podcasting utilizes the same RSS to subscribe to the content you see on the MyLife at UD website, but this time, you'll get to HEAR the entry instead of READ it. Podcasting allows you to download content from the MyLife at UD website as an audio file and listen to it using a specific podcasting audio program, like iTunes.
Why should I use RSS to receive web content?
The advantage of this kind of technology is that when the original website is updated, so is the content you see in the new location...automatically! You always know when there's fresh content on your favorite RSS-enabled websites.
How do I begin using RSS?
For this kind of technology to work, you need a website that offers the RSS format, like MyLife at UD, and a website or program (called an RSS Aggregator or Reader) that accepts and displays RSS content, like Bloglines. Think of it as a virtual magazine rack that contains the latest issues of all your favorite magazines.
Here's how to subscribe to the RSS feeds for MyLife at UD blogs, or any other feed:
- Install a program on your computer or register with a website, such as Bloglines, which provides the ability to display RSS content.
- Follow the program or website's instructions for adding new RSS content.
- When prompted by the program or website, copy and paste the desired URL from the list below, for the entry you wish to subscribe to.
How to subscribe to Podcasts?
- Install a podcasting program, such as iTunes, on your computer.
- Follow the program's instructions for adding new podcast subscriptions.
- When prompted by the program, copy and paste the desired URL from the list below, for the podcast you wish to subscribe to.
