Going to college in your hometown vs. going to another state or country
This blog could get me in trouble with some of my friends back home but its how I've felt for a while.
Most of my friends from high school decided to stay in Puerto Rico for college. As you already know I came to the states and it has been the best decision I've ever made. I respect the decision they made to stay in Puerto Rico and I see some advantages to it. However, when you come to the states you are basically alone and need to learn how to survive your first college year.
I could write lots of stuff about this subject but my point is when you leave your home to study at another state or even country you learn how to be independent and confront situations without mommy and daddy. Don't get me wrong I love my family, my friends, Puerto Rico and many other things but it seems that the few of us that get the opportunity to study in the states grow differently than the ones that stay back home. My friends back home are doing great but when it comes to certain topics or situations they still seem as if they were in high school, they haven't changed that much. I respect and still love them very much but I believe that you need a little bit of diversity, maturity, and variety. The funny thing is that I consider myself conservative and a serious kind of person when you need to and I know when to have fun. On the other hand, when I started in college I guess my opinions, they way act, the things I say, have made me a conservative-liberal. The crazy thing is that my friends say that when I moved to Dayton I have changed a lot and I am too liberal.
In summary, go to a college were you can get the most out of it and improve and grow and learn as much as you can.
PS- Go to a college that it's not in your hometown! Go to another state or even country! Trust me you wont regret it!
