Getting Ready
Today I am sitting in my local Chadds Ford Starbucks. This is the Starbucks that I always come to with my Dad for his daily cappuccino. I never want to be a snob when it comes to coffee, but the thing I love about Starbucks is that you can be anywhere and it will always taste the same. When I miss my Dad I come to Starbucks, when I need to get some work done I come to Starbucks, and whenever I just want a little taste of home I always stop in for a cup of coffee. My roommate was just telling me about the book "How Starbucks Saved my Life" and I told her that my version should be about how Starbucks helped me pass college. If I had to guess I would say that at least a third of my thesis was composed at the Starbucks on Brown Street. The cup of coffee on my table right now tastes just the same as the cups that woke me up before big tests and the cups that I shared with friends after class or on a tired Saturday morning. The good news for me is that there are some Starbucks stores in Korea. I am looking forward to a faraway taste of home and sharing a cup of coffee with future Korean friends and visitors.
My countdown to leaving is less than one month. Time has flown since graduation, but so much has happened. I have been trying to complete my pre-departure to-do list. Today I got my international drivers license, deferred my loans, and packed a few more items into my already full looking suitcases. I have enjoyed studying Korean, but it has proven to be a difficult task. I am trying to expose myself to as much vocabulary as possible and hope that my six weeks of language courses during orientation will help me to put my vocabulary into context. Based on my personal learning style I think that learning the language in the natural setting will really help my progress.
This weekend I am planning to head down to the shore and attend my little brother's graduation. I will be sure to update soon!
