Back at Dayton!
My last semester of college is underway. After Christmas my family and I went to New York City for a few days. We had a great time helping my older brother move into his new apartment in Hells Kitchen. Following my trip to New York, I went to Chicago for New Year's Eve. One of the great things about Dayton is the network of alumni around the country; the alumni network in Chicago is especially strong. A group of UD grads in Chicago rented out a yacht off of Navy Pier to celebrate new years with 150 fellow flyers. It was a blast!
I drove back to school with the perfect road trip companion, my friend Megan, who is from a suburb outside of Chicago. We came back a night early so that I could start to get ourselves organized before student teaching. My roommate Lauren graduated last semester and I moved into her old room downstairs. Although it took a while to move and I already miss late night chats with Faith, I am really enjoying my own space. My first week of student teaching flew by. I am in the Miamisburgh School District, which is about twenty minutes away, near the Dayton mall. The children in my classroom are precious and my cooperating teacher is a wonderful role model. I was very lucky to be matched with a teacher that shares my philosophy of education and is very open to sharing her experience with me. I am teaching first, second, and third grade students in special education. I am really looking forward to the weeks ahead.
