Pop Quiz Midterm!?!!!

As a fourth year education major you take methods classes that teach you how to teach your subject. There are 7 members of my class that I've been with for the past 4 years. We can complain and celebrate with one another. I think lately we've been doing a lot of complaining together, but pretty soon we will be encouraging and supporting one another as we begin to student teach.

Methods is a 4 hours class on Wednesdays starting at 8am. I haven't had an 8am class in at least 2 years...so even though I'm up by 8am almost everyday...it throws off my groove to have to go to class then. I'm a morning person, so my best studying happens in the morning...do you see the problem that's happening??

I can't stay up much past midnight without falling asleep. My eyes don't want to stay open and my brain shuts off. If I'm trying to study, it is VERY rare that I can make it past 1am (whereas many college students can stay up until 3am on a regular basis). So the problem comes when I'm falling asleep and still have work to do for this 8am class. The obvious answer: wake up early! So I'm getting up in the 5:30am neighborhood...(along with some of my classmates who are following in the 6/6:30 time frame) and it's creating an environment filled with sleep deprivation.

Our professor tells us this story about sleep deprivation today...and most of us just roll our eyes and laugh (because the entire class is TIRED). There was a study done on 6th graders testing at the 6th grade level who we given 30 minutes less sleep for three nights in a row and then tested again. They tested at the 4th grade level! So in my eyes...if this thing is exponentially decreasing...then no one in our class should have been allowed to do anything today!

Wrong. Way Wrong.

Surprise!! We had a mid-term today! No one knew.

On our syllabus the midterm isn't for a week or two. I was expecting to hear about it today. Nope. We took it. (Or at least we *think* we took it.) I think everyone was too sleep deprived and thrown off to ask if this was for real.

We had 30 minutes to create a midterm for the class. We were in groups of 2 or 3 and had to come up with 2 questions and a rubric. I bet she takes our questions and makes her own midterm. Sneaky way of making your students write your tests for you.

Actually...I hope that was our midterm. I thought my group did quite well!
