OPEN Porch
Something unique about the houses on campus are all of the porches. So it would seem logical that Campus Ministry would start something called P.O.R.C.H Communities.
P.O.R.C.H. stands for :People of Respect Compassion and Hope
OPEN Porch is the Porch group that was started to continue that post-retreat high that most people feel when they come home from a UD retrreat. I decided to checkout OPEN Porch this week because I've been apart of the Lighthouse Retreat for the past year and want that LH HIGH to continue. (A summary/overview of the LH Retreat is still to come...)
A typical P.O.R.C.H. group consists of 6-12 people who gather to pray and share together on a weekly basis. Groups meet to discuss their faith through prayer, simplicity, community, service and servant leadership. (the 5 pillars of campus ministry). P.O.R.C.H. Groups can be similar to a bible study or about just sharing your faith.
Last night was the OPEN Porch meeting, and it was great to see 3 of my fellow Lighthousers there. Strangely enough we were the only other people there (besides the Grad Assistant Jenna) but it also allowed me to be more open with people I'm already comfortable with. Last night we discussed some of our outlandish fears as well as more real fears and how to combat them. Overall, even though it was a small group, I enjoyed it and plan on returning next week (with hopefully some more Lighthousers in tow.)
