Disney Karaoke
At first glance, you might not realize that we have a Pub on campus. In Kennedy Union there is a sectioned off area raised up by a few steps affectionately named 'KU Pub'.
It's usually open Friday afternoons (from like 4-8? 9? 10?) I'm going to have to check on closing time. Organizations can rent it out on Thursdays and charge cover for an event, but the only time it is regularly open is on Fridays. Fridays are 21 and up, but when organization rent it out it becomes 18 and up.
Last night was my first time ever stepping foot in the Pub when it was open for business. Usually its just my desired seating area when I'm at KU for lunch with friends.
Only a really great reason would pull me away from my usual Thursday nights (which typically includes Grey's Anatomy). What better reason than DISNEY KARAOKE!!!!!
I've never been one for singing alone in public. (And technically I didn't sing Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid...alone last night. Megan just didn't want to hold a microphone and I was accused of stealing the show.) My friends would probably be surprised that I say that I'm not a fan of public singing...because they hear me singing all the time!! But I'm comfortable with my friends. They know I'm a goof and crazy and that one of my main interests includes singing at the top of my lungs!!!! Just not around strangers...
This summer was the first time I ever decided to sing in front of people I didn't know very well. It was like week one of Colorado Project...and for whatever reason I was comfortable with these people. Since this summer, I've really been able to be myself around everyone...even new people I meet. And I haven't been worried about what pepole will think of me. If they don't love my enthusiasm (and need to sing every song that I know the words to...which my summer co-workers can testify that includes a plethora of tunes) then the ones missing out.
I wish more organizations would have great ideas like Disney Karaoke!!! Until then I'm going to sing my heart out and have a great time!!
