Yay Mayor Bee! Yay Mayor Bee! (Alumni Weekend)

I'm talking about a slam dunk dude.

I have worked very few days this summer. I'm giving myself plenty of time to weigh my options. I did work alumni weekend at UD however. The job had me setting up tents, moving tables and driving a golf cart around campus. Yes, I did get paid to drive a golf cart around campus. While I was not allowed to have a tip jar out while driving the golf cart I did still get several tips from people which was a very welcome thing. I even got someone a job doing it too and we got to hang out the entire second day while getting paid. Not to shabby I don't think. Not to shabby at all.

Alumni weekend is a weekend over the summer where classes from UD in five year increments (this summer it was '02, '97, '92, etc.) come back to campus to see how it has changed. There was a party for every class one night and the following day there was a huge picnic followed by something called the porch party. UD will set up several fake porches at an event and people can get there pictures taken on them while reminiscing about old college days. I met a lot of really cool people at alumni weekend, danced a little bit, and even gave a pretty girl a rose (two ladies gave me the roses as a tip and, as I always say, a pretty girl should not be without a flower). I also did put a boom box in my cart (something which several other copycat drivers did as well) which I felt not only let me have some more fun but also aided in my tip getting.

It was pretty interesting seeing what it is like for people to come back 5 years out of school and see friends and places they haven't seen since college. It was even cooler to see people there for there 50th reunion and how crazy they got (the golden flyers where a wilder bunch the people there for there 5 year reunion I felt). I would suggest anyone do this while they are at UD. Heck, you get paid to drive a golf cart. Simply contact the alumni office sometime in the beginning or middle of May and ask for a job. In addition it is a great opportunity to network, I got a few business cards with some potential job offers.

After this weekend I'm already getting pumped for my first reunion weekend. Less for the fact that I get to see people and more because I know that 5 years from now I will have a weekend where I can pretend I'm back at UD. That for one weekend there may be living room hot sauce slide in's, TI's, Depilla and a lazy Saturday where there is nothing to do but sit in the sun and kick back.

*On a side not I recieved an email about my entry about Bob Weir. I spelled Ratdog incorrectly. My bad. Also, following the Dead would be much sweeter than following Ratdog but sadly we missed that train. I don't have comments on this blog but I do get emails if anyone sends them to the one listed on here and will reply or even just write a blog about it. I won't have this blog much longer so if you have anything to say, a bone to pick with me or what not, get on that.
