End o' the Year Happening

Well, this year sure seems to be winding down fast, almost faster than I would like. So much to do, so little time!

But, last week was a really good time, and I wanted to take some time to address some issues. Last week held two major events, both of which had the potential to negatively affect life here on campus. First was the Sigma Chi Derby Days, the second was Lowesfest. In my opinion, both went smoothly, despite the expectations of the administration.

Derby Days was excellently run, and the entire campus should know that. We raised nearly 4000 dollars for the different philanthropies. It's hard for fraternities and sororities to let people know about the good we do, especially with the negative image that we have been given. But the thousands of dollars going to worthy charities is nothing to sniff at, and all the girls that put in so much work raising that money, as well as the guys who did the lions share of the planning deserve credit. So hats off to all the people who did such a great job.

Secondly was Lowesfest. What that was, is basically a big block party during these first few nice weekends. Before last weekend, every student received an email telling them that police would be out in force, fines would be doubled, etc. But with all the stink about students being out of control, it turned out that 60% of the citations given out were to people who were not students at UD. If anything speaks for the ability of UD kids to have fun while still being responsible, I think that the numbers speak for themselves. So kudos to all who participated and made last weekend so much fun, I look forward to many more fun Lowesfests.
