College- 1991
Video games are a huge part of the life of many college boys. You can't walk through a dorm without hearing the cheers of young men after finishing a round of Madden '06 or Halo 2. These state-of-the-art games on these state-of-the-art systems are a great way to relax and chill out after a tough day of classes. Unfortunately for me, I can't afford to spend my valuable time learning how to use those complicated controllers, with their plethora of colored buttons. But I also require virtual stimulation. What is a man to do?
The answer presents itself when I peer back in time, a decade and a half. It was a simpler time, with fewer distractions, and way better video games. These games were all about the gameplay, not just the flashy graphics and the naked women and the graphic violence. There was violence sure, and it was great, but it was much classier. Anyhow, over break I got the ol' Sega Genesis working, and now I've brought it back to school. And I have purchased for it Tecmo Super Bowl. The first game that allowed licensed NFL team names and player names. And let me tell you, sports games peaked with this classic. With only 8 plays to choose from, players who are about 7 feet tall, and the groundbreaking ability to block kicks, this game had it all. I am now in the process of becoming the best player in the history of Tecmo, and I am well on my way. The only person who can compete is Mike. And that's just because he is an offensive genius. So screw him.
