Umm, surprised?
Okay, I was about to blog about my experience from last night, which is the Dialogue with the President, Dr. Curran. Then all of the sudden, I got an email saying that I have to pick up an award from the KU office. So I left my room immediately after putting on my jacket. Of course, it is cold in Ohio now!
I went to KU and picked up my award in a big envelope. I look at the award. This award said that I'm an outstanding member of the Beta Theta Pi. I was supposed to be awarded by the chairpeople during the Fraternity/Sorority Award Ceremony few days before the fall break.
I am literally shocked and blown away. Seriously? Me? Out of all of my Beta brothers, they chose me? I could not believe it: an outstanding member of Beta Theta Pi.
Yes, you can say that I'm in a "frat." However, I would not use a term "frat," because it is a bad term for a fraternity.
For those of you who are in high school, you may have heard and seen a lot of media on fraternity/sorority. TV show like Greek would be a great example of what fraternity/sorority is. To be honest, television shows, like Greek, are nothing like my fraternity, Beta Theta Pi.
You can say that college fraternity/sorority could be very different from what you have seen and heard on media. For example, hazing. Hazing activities were often seen in movies and television shows. In real life, hazing is illegal in the States.
Did I haze when I was a pledge member of Beta Theta Pi? No.
There are many things that high school students would be surprised how fraternities and sororities are different from what they seen on television shows.
