The Treacherous Journey to Campus on a Snow Day...

It was just a little more than a year ago that UD had a snow day. Today is one of those times again. Well, kind of. The University was closed until noon today, reopened, but then closed again at 4:30. When we woke up this morning, the roads were so icy...it was definitely a good thing school was closed. The only problem was that I had a 12:00 class, so the last thing I wanted to do when I found out my roommates didn't have their morning classes was go to class and take a test.

By noon you would have thought the weather would have cleared up...but this was not the case. As we ventured onto the treacherous sidewalks to head to our first classes, my roommates and I walked with caution...it was SO icy. There was a thin layer of ice all along the sidewalks, so everyone who was walking to class at this time was literally shuffling across, taking little baby steps...not to mention I saw two people slip and fall within the course of that time period. Pretty dangerous.

The most interesting part of this situation is that normally when the weather is bad, schools are closed because the roads are not safe to drive on. Did anyone ever consider that maybe the sidewalks are not safe to walk on, either? It was definitely a nerve-wracking walk to campus today. But my roommates and I survived, took our exams, and headed back home, only to find ourselves covered in a thin layer of ice when we got back home, our coats completely frozen.

As for my plans the rest of the night, you can probably guess that I am hoping not to leave this house for awhile. At least not until tomorrow morning for my 10am class. Hopefully the sidewalks will have better traction.
