The Spatulas Fourth Season
One of my favorite things about the winter is basketball. Not just UD basketball, but more importantly, intramural basketball. This is my fourth season in a row playing with The Spatulas, the intramural basketball team my friends and I created freshman year. Three years later, we are still a strong team and I love it. Okay, so maybe we don't win every game and we've never gone to the championship, but playing intramural sports is one of the best things about UD. I think we are nationally ranked on the Princeton Review's website for it even! So that just goes to show that pretty much anyone with athletic interest plays intramural sports at one point in their college career.
This season, we have branched out from just playing for The Spatulas and have been playing on a co-ed team known as "The Evil Poptarts." I am not really sure how that name came to be, or even how we came up with The Spatulas, but they are the two teams I will stay loyal to this season. Playing both co-ed and women's intramural has been a blast because I've gotten to play in twice the amount of basketball games and the Spatulas games are much different from the Evil Poptarts games. Bringing guys into the mix just makes it much more competitive, of course. Because we are in the recreational league, and not the competitive league, there are specific rules for the guys. They cannot go into the key or the "paint" of the court at any time...whether on offense or defense. At first this sounded like a strange rule, but after playing a few games I can see why that rule exists...it makes the game much more interesting when the guy players can only shoot from further away.
Anyway, we only have a couple more games left and then playoffs begin. We are hoping to take away a few more wins for the Spatulas, because this is sadly our last season...so let's go Spatulas!
