Summertime Busy-ness
Now that it's been a couple weeks, I'm almost completely adjusted to life at home once again. For the first couple days of summer I didn't really do much except unpack and figure out how I was supposed to combine two bedrooms into just one again. But I eventually figured it all out and now my room is definitely much less of a disaster.
After that came the job hunt. I kept saying I wasn't going to go back to Donatos and that I didn't want to deliver pizzas for another summer, but once I thought about the time that it takes to apply, interview, and finally get a new job somewhere else, I realized that going through all of that hassle would be pointless, especially since I'll be abroad for an entire month. What would be the point in getting a new job if I was just going to leave in a month anyway? I knew no place would want to hire me on those terms.
So, the inevitable happened and I called Donatos to see if they had some hours for me. It was just my luck they really needed the help, so I was able to start right away and get plenty hours in order to make a good amount of money. Considering the money I make, it's really not all that bad. In addition to delivering pizzas at night, my grandparents also hired me to help them in the yard a few days a week. Going from having nothing to do to having two jobs was a very big change. I've been really busy working both of those jobs, but it's not too bad. At least it's nice to make some money and try to shed the stereotype of being a "poor college student" by padding my savings with some extra cash...it definitely can't hurt.
I won't be working too much longer anyway because I'm going to Florida for a few days with my family in a couple weeks and then leaving for Spain not too much longer after that. Plus, I plan on heading down to UD for a night or two before I leave for Europe. This summer in Dayton must be a lot of fun for many people because I have at least 15 friends staying on campus for these few months. They are either living in the dorms, apartments, or houses, taking classes, or working full time for the university, but I'm sure summer at UD must be fun.
I hear that since the amount of people on campus is so much less during the summer, it makes it really fun for those who are actually there, creating a tight-knit community between the students (mostly upperclassmen) who stay there to take some extra credits and/or work. My own roommate in fact, is there right now, living up in Stuart hall working for catering full-time for the next few months. On one hand, it's hard to imagine not coming home to live with my family for a few months, but on the other hand, I can see myself possibly staying there next summer if a good job opportunity arises. I guess we'll just have to see what happens, but regardless, I'm going to visit my friends in a few weeks so I can get a taste of life at UD in the summertime.
