Looking Forward to a New Semester!
It's been a great Christmas break. I've definitely had a lot of time to relax, despite the craziness that the holiday season brings. I find it funny how there's so much anticipation and preparation for Christmas and then as soon as December 26 comes along, it's all over with. One thing that hasn't changed since December 25 is the malls. I tried to venture to the mall today to buy a few things I needed before heading back to Dayton, and it was hardly bearable. Lines at all of my favorite clothing stores were insanely long, there was nowhere to sit in the food court, and you could barely walk from store to store without running into someone else. Maybe it was naive of me to think that after-Christmas shopping would have already died down a bit after a couple days, but I definitely wasn't expecting the chaos or else I would have waited to make my trip to the mall later next week.
Oh well, as soon as the New Year comes along, everything will finally be back to normal. As much as I love the holiday season, it's definitely refreshing to welcome in the New Year. The nerd in me will have to comment on how I'm actually excited for the semester to start, too. I love starting new classes because it's the time in the semester when I actually have motivation to excel in my classes, unlike the end of the term when I just get burnt out from so many tests and papers. I'm also excited for this semester because I'm taking a few less credit hours than I normally do (thanks to my extra classes I took in Spain last summer!), so I'll have a little more time than I usually do. I'm also becoming secretary of my sorority this semester, so that will take up a bit more of my time and I couldn't be more excited for this opportunity. I've been in the sorority just about a year now, and this is the first time I'll have a leadership position in it, so I can't wait.
I also ordered my textbooks today. That's the not-so-exciting part about starting a new semester because it just means another few hundred dollars (aka my Christmas money) goes into books. If there's one thing I miss about high school, it's that you didn't have to pay for your textbooks. Just check them out in the library at the beginning of the year and return them at the end...it's that simple! Oh well, I just need to keep in mind the book-buy-backs at the end of the semester, because it's always nice to get at least some of that money back...and it's another rewarding part about finishing another semester of classes.
Classes start in a little over a week, which means that until then, I plan on relaxing as much as I can, because as soon as January 7th rolls along, it's time for another busy, yet fun semester at UD!
