Halloweentime Fun
Each year, when it comes time for Halloween, I find it hard to get into the holiday. Finding a costume and dressing up just seems time consuming and expensive to me. Call me "Debbie Downer" or a "buzzkill," but I just can't seem to get into it. Even other people's costumes freak me out sometimes. I don't know why but I just get creeped out when I see people who are dressed up and cannot tell who is really underneath the costume.
However, this year has been a little bit different. Although I didn't dress up this past weekend, my roommates have helped me get into the fun. Late Saturday evening, while my roommate, Kelly and I ate some late-night Domino's and watched TV, we heard a knock at the door. It sounded as if someone was trying to open it but had forgotten their key. We figured it must have been two of our other roommates, Christin and Liz, because they were the only ones that were still out. As the knocking on the door became more intense and impatient-sounding, Kelly and I both looked at each other and rolled our eyes. Clearly neither of us wanted to get off the couch to let our roommates in. "They are so irresponsible for forgetting their keys," we both thought to ourselves.
Finally I gave in and got up to open the door. Right before I opened the door, however, I wanted to make sure it was them...just to be safe. So, I peeked out of the blinds that cover our front door window. As soon as I pulled the blinds open, a person in a SCREAM MASK was staring back at me!
Immediately, I jumped away from the door...I was half-scared, and half-amused. Scared because I wasn't sure if it was actually Christin and Liz (especially since I only saw one person), and amused by the fact that I had gotten so freaked out by this.
"Kelly! Someone's at our door in a Scream mask!!!" I yelled to her.
"What?!" She said as she quickly jumped up from the couch to get a look for herself.
We both started laughing...nervous laughter, and we didn't know what to do. WAS IT CHRISTIN AND LIZ!? They weren't saying anything and we didn't want to take a chance that it was some psycho trying to get into our house. Plus, I've seen all three of the Scream movies...I knew what could've happened.
"QUICK, CHAIN THE DOOR!" Kelly screamed.
So, we chained the door and made sure it was still locked because we didn't know what else to do. Then, all of a sudden, we see the lock turn and the door slowly opens. Kelly and I both scream and run away from the door because all we can see is a person in a Scream mask looking in underneath the chain.
After we composed ourselves and got our rationality back, we walked back over to the door and realized we heard Christin laughing from behind the mask. Then Liz appeared, too and we knew we had been tricked.
Uncontrollable laughter ensued, of course, and we let Christin and Liz in. They got us good...but it was probably the funniest thing that happened all weekend. Since then, we've all been playing little pranks on each other in the spirit of Halloween, such as hiding underneath each other's beds with the Scream mask on and putting fake rodents in each other's trash cans/beds. Yep, and we're all in our 20s, although you wouldn't know it sometimes which makes me wonder if college makes you more or less immature...I think it really depends on the situation.
