Freshman Year Flashback!
Last night my friends and I took a trip down memory lane: we ate at Marycrest. Marycrest, where I lived freshman year, is also a popular dining hall on campus. However, it's mostly the 800 first-year students who live there that eat there. Since my roommates and I have lived in places with kitchens the past two years, we hardly ever eat dinner on campus anymore.
This was all my friend Nick's idea. We were going to have him and his housemates over to our house for dinner, but he suggested we all go to Marycrest together instead for some nostalgia for freshman year. So, we all bundled up and took the trek to Marycrest last night for some classic dorm food. When we arrived we were amazed by the changes in the cafeteria. It seems like every time I come back to my freshman dorm something is different. This past summer, all of Marycrest was renovated. Jessica and I decided to head up to the seventh floor after dinner to see our old room. The entire hallway looked completely different! Some rooms had been taken out and replaced with more lounges or bathrooms, it was so strange! I didn't feel like I was at "home" in my old dorm. The place I lived two years ago with old wooden drawers, hard to open windows, and no air conditioning was now equipped with newly stained wood, brand new windows, a/c, and a mini-fridge/microwave combo!
Despite the tremendous changes in the dorm that didn't look like the same place we lived freshman year, we knocked on our old door anyway. When the resident opened the door, we introduced ourselves and told her we used to live there! It was kind of exciting because we got to see our old room again...TWO YEARS after we actually lived there. Although there was some noticeable differences, it still felt like our room. Jessica and I were so excited. My suggestion for anyone who is a freshman or is going to be a freshman: if upperclassmen come knocking on your dorm room someday claiming that's where they used to live, please humor them...chances are, they're really excited because freshman year dorm pride never dies.
