Construction Craziness and Stuart Simplicity = Summer at UD

Now that I've been here almost a full week, I'm finally adjusted to life on campus during the summer. At first it was really difficult to get used to...summer here is just so different. There are SO many less people, construction is occurring in every direction you look, and upperclassmen are living in the dorms...definitely much different than the school year. It's going to be neat to see all the different things that happen on campus during these few months though, and it'll be cool to see all the construction finish up for the school year to start again!

To give you an idea of how much construction there is, today when I was walking to work I ran into this whole area of construction right in the middle of campus. I quickly made a decision as to which direction I was going to turn in order to go around it, but when I thought I had avoided the taped off area, it turned out I was still completely blocked off to the part of campus I was trying to reach. The construction workers gave me a "what do you think you're doing" look as I sheepishly turned around and tried to go a different way. Little did I know, the other way I was planning on going was blocked off too! At this point I was so embarrassed and completely confused on how to get around the trucks and bulldozers, that I just cut through KU (Kennedy Union--the student union) in order to avoid getting stuck behind yellow tape again. That was a interesting start to my morning, but luckily I had left for work early enough that I had plenty of time to spare for that little detour.

And just so that everyone doesn't think I completely dislike dorm life, let me let you in on some of my favorite things about living in a dorm again. Now, I'll always be biased toward Marycrest, my freshman year dorm, but Stuart has its perks too. Although the room is about 2/3 as small as my Marycrest room and much further from the center of campus, I have grown to enjoy the coziness it creates. Also, nothing beats the view from Stuart Complex. Being on the top of the hill is looked at as a negative thing most of the time because of the walk to campus up and down it each day, but there's no better place to watch a sunset (or sunrise) than from the top of Stuart Hill. However, once it reaches the middle of June and becomes unbearably hot again, I'll long for an air-conditioning unit and I'll be more than ready to move into my house for next semester. But until then, I plan on indulging in and enjoying the simplicity of Stuart for the next couple months.
