Time Warp
Since I started my job here in Phoenix, I've noticed that my concept of time has been so distorted. Because I am living with such a unique routine and daily schedule, days seem to last forever, yet seem to fly by at the same time...it's a weird and inexplicable phenomenon. When I first came here and realized that my concept of time seemed to be so off, I commented to a staff member who has been here for awhile and she just said, "Oh yeah, it's always like that here...so much happens in a day that it seems so long, yet when you look back it feels like it happened forever ago. It's just part of being at Maggie's Place." At first I was apprehensive about how well I'd adjust to such a different lifestyle, especially coming from a college atmosphere, which is COMPLETELY different than life here, but I think I've adjusted pretty well and I've truly began to embrace a lifestyle of simple living.
Some of the most amazing blessings here have come from living in such an intense community. Living where I work is such a different concept than what I'm used to, but I love that my job is also my life. At the same time, things can get stressful, which is why day offs are a must. Rather than working a normal Mon-Fri, 9-5 schedule, our schedules here are much different and each staff member from each house gets a different day off during the week. Thursday is my day off each week and I really enjoy having a day where I don't do much at all except work out, run some errands, and watch TV...it is truly refreshing! Even though I am a very extroverted person, I even enjoy having time to myself on my day off, since the rest of the week I am constantly engaging my extroverted personality.
The heat here is even worse than I expected. Everyone told me that since it's dry heat, 115 degrees won't feel as hot as it sounds, but I have to disagree with that statement. 115 degrees is hot....humidity or not! It has rained once since I've been here, because apparently we are in "monsoon" season. In Phoenix-lingo....that means it will rain about a handful of times. Because I'm used to Ohio weather....the rain here seems like nothing...and unlike Ohio, it doesn't stay cloudy for days at a time, which I find refreshing. Speaking of refreshing, it's about time for me to go enjoy the rest of the my day off so I can feel rejuvenated for another day of work tomorrow!
