What a beautiful day in my life.

Yes, ladies and gentleman, the day has finally arrived. I am officially a teacher. I called a school district in the area yesterday and inquired about a math position. "Lucky for you," the lady said, "I am scheduling interviews right now. Can you come in tomorrow?" So today at 12:30 I went into my interview. I went in not knowing much about the district and not really knowing if this was a school I would want to teach at. This was very unlike me. I usually know the district front and backwards. When I went in, everyone who walked by me said hello and asked how I was. It was very welcoming. The building is also brand new. I nailed the interview. I was confident, my answers were straightforward and I learned a lot about the administration style of the two principals I interviewed with. Not an hour after the interview my cooperating teacher from this past year called and said some school had called her and where had I interviewed today. She’s been getting a lot of phone calls lately. I told her about the school and that I really liked it. As soon as I hung up the phone the principal called me and offered me the job. They want me to sign a contract this weekend and new teacher orientation starts June 29th. Wow. Wow. Wow.

So, I'm officially not a student. It feels good to know that after a lot of hard work. A lot of anxiety and questioning, I'm going to have a job next year. It's even better to know that I did it all by myself. I didn't know anyone from this district, I hadn't worked with anyone before. They hired me because something I said or something I did impressed them. That for me is quite an accomplishment and makes all of the long hours of research, volunteer and work in college worth it.

The other thing I wanted to tell you all is that I received my UD Alumni card in the mail a while ago. It was good to know that there are services provided for us newly graduated such as short-term health insurance and employment support. I wanted to say thank you to the alumni who provide those services to us newly graduated. I guess that's all. Pretty big news though. I guess I'm really here, I should probably go apartment shopping. Scary.
