My March Towards a Cap and Gown
I'm not really sure who reads these beautiful recollections of my life. Some of you may be prospective students, others of you alumni, and I know sometimes my mom and dad tune in to catch up on my exciting social life. However, I do know of one, my biggest fan Carter, a Flyer in the making. Speaking of my growing reader population of young Flyers, last weekend, I went home to celebrate my sister's first birthday.
While I was there I conveniently washed my three loads of laundry for free and showered in a clean shower and breathed clean air. When I'm at school our ghetto house doesn't seem so bad. But when you go home and experience cleanliness and humidity (something our house lacks) you begin to wish you could move back. While I was home I also joined the Admissions Office at a hotel session where we talked to prospective students about joining the UD family. Going to these sessions really makes it hard to accept that May seventh date set by the administration.
Thursday March 8th was another sad day in my life. It was the day that I picked up my graduation cap and gown. The line of seniors seemed to go on forever. It almost felt like a death march as we all stared our future in the face. At the graduation fair I also learned of the long term relationship I would be maintaining with Sallie Mae. Although the fair was very informative, it in some ways felt as if they were kicking us out and excited about it. When I got home I threw my cap and gown under my bed and asked my roommate to help me remember where I put it.
Friday started Spring Break for UD students other than student teachers and students who are working or have an internship. Therefore, with the lack of life on campus I went to Blockbuster to pick up my Friday night date, Walk the Line, which proved to be a very good date. Saturday morning, I woke up and braved the mall where I hunted down a black suit to where for upcoming interviews. As I looked at myself in the mirror I couldn't help but think I looked like a little girl trying on her mother's clothes. After a successful find I started my travels to Cincinnati where I was going to visit my roommate and her family. What I thought would be an easy hour drive ended up being two hours due to an accident on I-75. However, I did get some long needed voice lessons in as I hummed along to the radio.
Leah's family and I joined two other couples at Brio where we enjoyed an amazing meal. It was really nice to be at a home again and when I got back to UD today I was inspired to clean. But once I began I realized that this was going to be an unsatisfying job and that there wasn't much I could do to save our poor Ghetto home. Tonight I have been working on more applications and cover letters. It seems that has become a favorite pastime of mine since it seems to be the only thing I do besides sleep and eat after school.
Tomorrow's going to be a big day. I have a mock interview at Van Buren Middle School. I am looking forward to talking to the principal as I did some observations and teaching at their school as well as participated in a research group that worked with their sixth grade students. Well, after Grey's it's time for bed so stay tuned for the mock interview reflections.
