Ready... Set... Habitat!
Habitat has officially started up this semester! It is a very exciting time. I expect this to be an incredible year for our group. I have a number of worksites, socials and fundraising ideas ready to go or in the works and with the house sponsorship on the way we could get a lot of work accomplished this year! Here are just a few of the new things we have planed for this year:
- A UD Sponsored house
- A Habitat Retreat with other area colleges
- Creation of a UD Habitat Historian to keep track of Alumni
- Creation of a UD Habitat Public Relations Officer to keep us in the news
- Habitat Olympics
These are just changes and new events we are planning. We still have our normal worksites and other events as well! The UD house I have already talked about but some of the other new ideas are pretty exciting as well, like the new officer positions and Habitat Olympics. The new officers will help keep us in the news on campus and off as well as keep in contact with our alumni. This could increase donations and give someone of our members some experience in doing this type of work. The Habitat Olympics on the other hand is an event I thought up with the help of my aunts who volunteer with the Special Olympics. It is a fundraiser where groups raise money to sponsor teams in a competition run by UD Habitat. These types of events have raised a lot of money for other groups on campus and while it takes a lot of work to pull it off, I think we will be able to put it together.
I cannot wait to get started. Wish us luck!
