Internal Auditing Analysis

With the summer around halfway over I figured it was time to evaluate my internship with Premier Health Partners. I have been working in their internal auditing department since the beginning of the summer and it has been going pretty well. They have me working on a number of different projects from audits to investigations and I am really enjoying all of them.

Auditing is a popular field for accountants especially with new government regulations going out to protect against fraud and improve accountability. These changes are increasing demand for auditors in almost every field. Most of the people in my class decided to intern with public accounting firms doing external auditing, but I decided to take a different route. So, I went with a private company so I could do internal auditing. I think I made the right choice. Internal auditing allows an auditor to really get into a company and see the inner workings of the organization from a firsthand perspective while external auditing gives a better view of the company as a whole. I am not sure which I would like to go into in the long run, but internal auditing had worked out great for me so far. I started the summer wanting to know simple things like the necessary steps involved with audits, how to write an audit, how the audit department functions in the organization and most importantly, what the life of an auditor is like. I can happily say I have accomplished all these goals. Now I just have to put this information to good use. I only have a year left to decide what field within accounting I want to pursue before getting into the workforce and I am beginning to feel the pressure. However, now I have some experience to help me decide.
