Time management
Let me first apologize for not blogging for two weeks. I know you have been anxiously awaiting my next entry, but let me tell you, I have barely had time to just sit in the last couple of weeks. In addition to studying for tests, my regular work load for my classes has skyrocketed, and there is not relief in sight. However, fall break is just a week away, and that will be an excellent opportunity for me to catch up and re-organize myself.
It is times like these that make one realize the importance of good time management skills. The days of weekend homework being put off until Sunday night are long gone. The days of not doing homework until after dinner are over with. The old adage of work before play is actually incredibly true. Of course, once you get to be a junior in your chosen field of study, you better be able to spend all your time on school work. If not, you're going to have a hard time making a career out of it. This semester, as well as my work experience over the summer, has made me realize that a career is much more than a job. It is your life. You dedicate the majority of your time and energy into it, leaving relatively little time for recreation. I can say that I enjoy what I'm doing, and there is no better feeling than being done with an assignment that occupied eight hours of my time. (By the way, these assignments occur in every class on a weekly basis now rather than just once a semester.)
My advice to anyone who has not made it to their junior year (especially in civil engineering), is this: choose your major wisely, because your major determines your career which in turn defines your life.
