The Keys

The beautiful beach in the Keys.

Last weekend, my family celebrated my Dad's birthday with a tropical escape to the Florida Keys. This was my first time to the Keys and my first time south of Orlando. It was a pleasant relief from the cool November days in Ohio. The temperature was perfect all weekend, and there was plenty of sun and not too many tourists. The entire family, including my three sisters, two brothers, two nephews, and two nieces congregated to spend time together and catch up. Only once or twice a year does everyone get together at the time. It is always amazing to see how quickly my nieces and nephews, ranging in age from 1 to 9, are growing up!

Although I was suffering from a cold the entire trip, it was still a lot of fun. We spent one full day fishing in the Florida Bay along the southern tip of the Florida peninsula. We caught more small fish than large ones, but we did pull in a ten pound goliath grouper and a 27" snook. The best part was just being out on the water enjoying the beautiful weather. I then spent a couple days relaxing - swimming around the pool, lounging on the beach, and sea kayaking. South Florida is definitely somewhere I'd like to go during the warm fall/winter rather than during the very hot summer.
