Senior Friends
As yet another summer draws to an end, it is beginning to strick me that many of my friends are now seniors. Because I am co-oping, I am still a junior and have one more summer to look forward to as an undergraduate student. But for many of my classmates and close friends, the last few days have come for the last summer vacation of their lives. If that doesn't put things in perspective, I don't know what will. The truth is, I've gotten to the point where the professional world is not a seemingly distant arena where one visits briefly each summer with an internship. No, the end of school as I know it is just around the corner. Even with two more years at UD and graduate school to follow most likely after that, the conclusion of my formal education is quickly approaching.
Speaking of graduation, the incoming freshman at UD this year will have a slightly different experience than incoming freshman in the past including myself. Apparently, freshman orientation has been reduced to the latter part of the weekend immediately before the start of classes next Monday. Although I found many of the orientation activities less than necessary, it was nice to have a few days getting adjusted to the dorm and campus before classes started and before the rest of the student body poured in. Classes also used to start in the middle of the week, allowing the first week to be relatively brief and less shocking after a summer away from school. Now freshman will be thrown into the biggest maturation process of their lives (college) with full week of classes as well. They will certainly be anxious for the first full weekend on campus.
