Political Focus on Ohio
As you probably already know, Ohio has suddenly become a nucleus of sorts for political action. With the Ohio primaries only a week away, the leading candidates are doing everything they can to capture the many delegates the state has to offer. The tone from the candidates is similar in a state that has seen massive job cuts, especially in manufacturing, over the past decade. The frontrunners are directing their message to the blue-collar, working-class heart of the Midwest, addressing concerns about the economy and creating jobs.
I, like many Americans this year, have been captivated by the heated nomination race. While the Republicans are leaving little doubt in their candidate, the Democratic nomination is still up in the air. Next Tuesday, with Ohio and Texas going to the polls, will likely decide who will be the nominee for the Democrats. Over the past week, we've been bombarded here in Dayton by TV and radio commercials, and the candidates have made regular visits across the state. This evening, I decided to go for the first time to a political rally, an Obama event held at Wright State University. I was interested to hear what Obama had to say, and I wanted to experience one of these rallys. The turnout was large, and the crowd cheered enthusiastically throughout the event. Although I am not decided on whom to vote for, I'll be able to make a better decision with more information from events such as this.
