Milwaukee
This past weekend, I went to Milwaukee for an American Society of Civil Engineers leadership conference along with the four other student officers from UD. Driving up on Friday, we spent three days learning more about the organization and how to lead and run an effective student chapter. ASCE is a society that promotes the profession of civil engineering in a variety of ways. On the student level, it exposes young people to the career of civil engineering and allows them to relate what is taught in the classroom to what work is done in the real world. For professionals, it advocates the field and establishes standards and ethics to adhere to. The organization is also looking to become more active politically to influence the way issues involving civil engineering such as infrastructure are handled. I gained valuable information from the conference and it was overall an enjoyable weekend.
A winter storm hit Ohio today, dumping 6 inches of snow and ice. This meant a snow day with UD cancelling classes for the first time since I've been here.
