Iroquois Steeplechase

Last weekend, I went down to Nashville, TN to visit my sister and go the Iroquois Steeplechase with her. My girlfriend, Liz came along as well. It was the first real horse race that I had been to, although my sister had been to several in previous years. She and some of her friends had gotten tailgating tickets in the infield. You can reserve one or more parking spaces in the infield which you drive to and set up a tent. We had a lot of food for the day, and fortunately the weather was perfect. I could not believe the thousands of people just in the infield. Our spot was along the track, so we were able to see the horses run by. But most of the people in the infield could not see the horse race. For them, it was more of a social even than a horse race. The traffic getting in was very heavy, but once we set up and had some Chick-fil-a, it was very relaxing. Our group bet amongst ourselves in small amounts. I came away with the pot for the final steeplechase. It was a lot of fun and a very different experience being in the infield.
