Home Repairs on Kiefaber

One of the best things about UD is living in the student neighborhood. It is unique for college students to live in houses together, all in one cozy neighborhood, without being in fraternities or sororities. The UD-owned houses around campus used to be NCR workers' houses. As the workforce moved out, the University bought up the houses and let upperclass students live in them. Each house has character - I've lived in three very different houses while at UD. But the one thing they all have in common is that they're old!

My current house has had some major bathroom leaking problems this year, causing water stains on the living room ceiling. Last week, UD brought in a contractor to fix the problem. A small leak turned out to be a major three-day repair job that involved tearing apart the bathroom, tearing out part of the living room wall, and installing over 30-feet of new PVC pipe to replace old lead pipe. Now we have a new bathroom floor and no more leaks!

There are a growing number of new or renovated houses on campus, but they don't have all the inconveniences of old houses that make daily life so interesting.
