High atop Stone Mountain

During my final week of winter break, my girlfriend Liz came to visit in Atlanta. We had a busy week doing all the "touristy" things that I don't normally do as a permanent resident. We spent one day at the World of Coke (Coca Cola's museum), one day at the High Museum of Art, and one day at Stone Mountain. Stone Mountain is a huge mountain of granite rock. Incredibly, there is some vegetation in some small patches of soil or between cracks in the rock. This huge rock actually extends hundreds of square miles beneath the earth's surface to surrounding states. There is a cable car that climbs the steep side of the mountain, where there is a huge carving of Confederate leaders and generals. A walking trail can be found on the less steep side of the mountain. We hiked over a mile up to the top, giving us some fantastic views of the city and surrounding area. Below are some pictures for your amusement.

Now it is back to reality at UD. I am the new president of the civil engineering professional organization. This is the first time I have held a presidential position at UD, and it is definitely keeping me very busy. That, along with my course load and thesis work, should leave little free time. But, you may as well take advantage of opportunities presented.
