First ASCE Meeting
Our first ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) meeting of the year featured a guest speaker and an overview of what ASCE at UD means. Basically, ASCE is a major professional organization which encourages involvement in civil engineering among students through local student chapters. The UD chapter is active in bringing in engineers and professionals from the Dayton area to speak at our meetings. We also encourage networking and interaction between students and potential employers through social events at local restaurants and through our annual golf outing. The golf outing, which is on September 20th this year, is also our primary fundraising event. We also participate in service activities such as Christmas on Campus and Tech Fest.
The speaker for the first meeting was Steve Harvey with Ernst Concrete. Steve gave an engaging presentation on the history of concrete, typical applications, trends, and new products. We hope to continue our student chapter's growing success in the last few years in terms of participation in chapter activities and regional competitions.
