Financial Matters

After a long week, it is finally Friday evening. I think no matter how much you enjoy your job, the weekend is always welcome. The end of the week also brings to mind an important aspect of being employed - making money. You see, a defining characteristic of college is spending a lot of money while not making any. Not only do you have to pay for tuition, room, board and books, you also don't have much time to earn money to pay for everything. Having some income is another great reason to co-op. There are also a decent number of opportunities for student employment on campus. You can do anything from working in an office for a few hours a week to doing housekeeping in your dorm. My philosophy, probably ingrained in me by my parents, is that you go to school to study, not to work. So basically, you should put grades and academic success ahead of making some extra money. Part-time jobs are great if they don't take up too much time. But look at it this way - you may acquire more loans if you dedicate your time to school, but at least you'll get better grades and probably make more money after graduation.

Right now I'm just enjoying the warm weather in Dayton and am amazed that we're a third of the way through June. It'll be time for classes again before you know it.
