Christmas Cheer

Yes, it's that time of the year again - filled with excitement, stress, and some cold weather. The excitement results from the quickly approaching Christmas break and all the festivities on campus, many of them revolving around Christmas on Campus this Thursday. There are some very impressive Christmas light decorations on the houses in the student neighborhood as people try to win the annual house decorating contest. Today was the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation in the Catholic Church and a day off from school at UD. Usually, Christmas on Campus falls on this day, but it did not work out this year since it's a Monday. I'll be helping with the carnival games for COC again this year with the civil engineering society, ASCE. We always have a lot of fun seeing all the kids come through the RecPlex playing games and getting exciting about the candy prizes.

The stress during this cluttered 3-week period between Thanksgiving and Christmas break is obviously due to all the projects, papers, and exams at the end of the semester. My approach is to just keep my head above water - just keep working continuously until I realize that it's December 19th and it's all over. You can't sit back and feel sorry for yourself. Instead, you take one thing at a time and move immediately on to the next assignment.

And yes, the cold weather has arrived here in Dayton. We got our first snow over the weekend. Although not much accumulated, there was enough to make roads slick, and my car has gotten its first coating of road salt for the season. It just wouldn't be the Midwest without the weather.
