Birthday Weekend in Nashville

Vanderbilt Stadium.

Last Thursday, I celebrated my 21st birthday in Cincinnati. It is a tradition at the office where I co-op to bring in treats on your birthday, typically donuts or bagels. I decided to do something a little different, bringing in two Crave Cases from White Castle. It was quite a hit among the Cincinnatians. My parents came into town and met me at an Irish pub downtown after work. Several of my co-workers joined us as well. It was somewhat surreal being able to have a beer in a bar finally. Afterwards, we headed across the river into Newport and had dinner at the Hofbrauhaus. This was a particularly interesting experience for me, since I have been to the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich during my study abroad trip a couple years ago. Although it comes short of the authentic beer garden, it was a great German atmosphere with delicious food and beer.

After work on Friday, I drove down to Nashville with my parents to visit my sister. The main event of the weekend was the Georgia-Vanderbilt football game. There was more interest than usual in this Vanderbilt game, since it was homecoming and since Vanderbilt upset Georgia last year. Being a Bulldog fan, it was good to see about half the stadium filled with red and black. Although Georgia did not really deserve the victory, I was very happy to see them come out on top. It was the first Georgia football game I?ve attended, and it was a lot of fun, especially the tailgating beforehand.

UD basketball games are very exciting and a great experience, but I often wish UD had the football atmosphere like other schools.
