ASCE Golf Outing
Last Saturday, the UD ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) student chapter hosted its 15th annual golf outing. This is our primary fundraiser of the year that provides money for food at our monthly meetings and for fees, travel expenses, lodging, and food at our civil engineering regional and national competitions in the Spring. The outing takes a lot of planning but is always fun when the event finally arrives. The student chapter vice president is in charge of organizing and planning the outing each year. I was in this position last year, and as president I helped our VP, George, this year. The event was once again a success, drawing 80 golfers and 16 hole sponsors. Most of the participants are engineers and construction managers from the Dayton area. Civil engineering students and faculty from UD also participate and interact with engineering professionals in a relaxed environment.
In addition to engineering and construction companies who sponsor holes, restaurants and stores donate door prizes which are raffled off during the lunch we hold after the tournament. UD Dining Services donates donuts each year for breakfast before the golfing begins, and UD Athletics donates men's basketball tickets as prizes.
This is the second year we have held the outing at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, just south of Dayton. Heatherwoode is a great course, and they do an excellent job of hosting golf outings. The course also donates prizes that are given to the top three teams and to the winners of longest drive and closest to pin.
The UD ASCE golf outing has grown to be a fun and successful event for our student chapter, and hopefully it will continue well into the future.
