Farewell to UD
I really can't believe it's over. Even though I just graduated last weekend, I'm sure the fact that I'm done with UD will really hit me in August when I don't return like I have the past five years. My experience at UD has been phenomenal. The people I've met have been extraordinary and the opportunities have been unique and life-changing. I've formed relationships that will last a life time, and I've been shaped into someone who values my profession, my family, my friends, and my faith. No matter where you go to school, you'll find things that you like and things you don't like. This is true at UD, but students seem to find things they REALLY like at UD.
The end of my final semester and graduation was both special and surreal. I was busy getting my final projects and exams done, and before I knew it, it was time to graduate. It was so great to have my entire family in Dayton for graduation. My parents, my five siblings and their spouses, my nieces and nephews, and my aunt were all present. The Baccalaureate Mass on Saturday was followed by a big cookout that my roommates and I put on for our families. As I sat in UD Arena on Sunday during Commencement, I couldn't help but reflect on the last five years at UD. I thought about all that I learned and how much I grew as a person. I looked around at my classmates, some of whom I'll keep up with in the future and others who I may never see again. I smiled at my family as I walked to the front and received my degree from Dr. Curran, shaking hands with my engineering teachers.
I may not be returning to UD for school, but I will surely return to visit friends and relive the fond memories of the student neighborhood. I will always be a proud Flyer!
