Revisiting Old Friendships
This is the first summer I've been home since after my first year at UD...which means to some extent I've missed out a little each summer. Not that I would change a thing, or that I wasn't doing valuable things, but while I've been away, things haven't stopped either.
In the beginning I almost felt an outsider and not really comfortable or myself. I mean, although I keep up to date on the major stuff, I haven't hung around with these people for years, and I've changed a lot since then...changes that they know nothing about. For the most part I pretty much kept quiet, went out, joined in on the jokes and had a good time. But at the end of the night the best descriptive word is always "distant".
That changed just a little this past weekend. We all met up for a cookout-fishing-toss the ball back and forth outing, followed by a fire at a friends house. It was nice to sit around outside, relax, joke around and revisit stories from the first times we all met each other.
I have to say it makes me feel a little bit more like "us" again.
