New city headaches
I never said out loud that I thought moving was going to be a piece of cake...then again I never said I expected some hiccups along the way either.
Moving my personal belongings wasn't that big of a deal. It's mostly finding myself in unknown territory, and alone. I've taken for granted knowing exactly how to get to the grocery store, or where the gas station is. There is major construction in some areas, and it makes being an "out of towner" even more stressful.
I'm certain eventually I will prevail. My roommate will be moving in soon, our cable and internet gets hooked up on Thursday (right now I'm at a coffee place with free wireless), and soon enough orientation and classes will start.
To keep you entertained however, here are a few of the hiccups I mentioned:
(1) I went grocery shopping at what was supposed to be a "cheap" place. It was cramped, people were pushy, and overpriced (so overpriced I won't even mention how much it was because it sends me into a rage). They did NOT accept credit card, but to use a check you had to have an account, which of course I did not because I've never been there before. Overwith I thought...but not too quick. To avoid carts being stolen, yoru penned in ten feet from the doorway, while my car was up a hill and in another lot. Fabulous.
(2) Ordered pizza, only to find out it was again, overpriced. THIRTY DOLLARS for two medium pizzas. I miss cousin vinny's big ten already.
(3) Went to the gas station, only to find out they close at 6:00 on sundays.
(4) Bought a curtain rod and outlet adaptors, only to discover they were the wrong size, wrong fit, wrong everything. Returned said items, only to find out the ones I bought to replace them, were broken and missing pieces.
(5) Had to call the bank twice on my way there and have them stay on the phone with me because I was lost. Let's just say I was pretty popular by the time I stepped through those doors.
I'm giving up on things being easy for now, and have convinced myself that who needs groceries and curtain rods anyways?
