Like ripping off a band-aid
I'm sitting in my new living room, watching a movie with my new roommate that I've only known for a week, and it's the night before a week of orientation classes is to start. It seems I've thought about tomorrow, worried about tomorrow, since last August. Talking about and doing are two very different things however, and it's hard to believe I'm actually here now.
Now it's time for a fresh start, but not the same type of fresh start I got four years ago. It's a new city, but I have friends from UD that I'm bringing with me. It's a new school, but the law school experience is clearly not going to be the same as the undergrad experience.
But just as it was before it's a test of who I am. It's not until you're out on your own that you become acutely aware of this notion of who you are. When no one knows you but your name, how do you convey to them who you are? When no one knows you, you realize that every action you make is an action that others are going to begin to base who you are in their minds off of. It's a bit tiring. At least by the end of my time at UD, there was no explaining to do, the people that needed to know, knew who I was. Oh well, that will all get worked out with time.
But enough already. You've all heard enough about this law school business, boo hoo. It's time for my goodbyes.
I want to give a big thanks for opportunity, where I've been able to share my experiences and stories for the past three years with prospective students, families and alumni. Thank you to everyone who has read this blog and to the people that contacted me with stories and reflections of their own.
For those of you about to begin your journey at UD, enjoy it, because it spits you back out before ya know it. After you graduate, everyone moves on to something else, and it all happens pretty quickly. It's sad to think that my best girlfriends are already across the US: Las Vegas and New Orleans, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Tennessee and now Cleveland. No worries, there's already a wedding and new years plans for our reunion.
But for now I have to go, I think I'm already behind in some reading.
Stay classy San Diego. (If you just asked why I said San Diego?it means you haven't seen the movie that the line came from).
