A Relationship Takes Work Post-Graduation

I've been dating someone at school since junior year, but once graduation comes, you're forced into this quasi-awkward territory that you have to face eventually. It isn't easy anymore, and for some people thats enough to be a deal breaker right then and there. I can't just walk down the street to his house anymore and hang out with his housemates, or walk to Art Street to get food.

With his "real-person, nine-to-five" job, he gets weekends off. But of course my silly part-time job doesn't afford me that luxury. I'm bound to whatever hours they want to put up on that schedule...which makes scheduling times to see each other a lot more difficult.

Quickly we realized, we actually have to plan ahead, request days off and cough up the ever increasing cost of gas. This weekend was the first I've seen him since we left UD. He was able to come to Maumee for a night, go out to eat with the family, to a local festival, and then the local watering hole to meet the Maumee crowd (which can be intimidating at first, but after a while everyone was havin' a good time.

Next time is my turn, who knows when that will be able to happen though, then a camping trip at the end of June with my family, followed by a trip back down to Dayton in July for a night out with his coworkers and boss (yikes I'm nervous!). That about rounds up the amount of time we'll get to spend together this summer.

Sometimes I question if its a bit over the top, but then I realize, well honey, this is life...gotta do what ya gotta do.
